This was a 10m by 15m oak roof that we built for a local builder down in Broadhempston, South Devon. The house was designed to have the living room and kitchen upstairs and be entirely open plan and vaulted to the ridge. This lent itself well to having an Oak framed roof. Approaching us after planning permission had been acquired, we were commissioned to design an Oak frame to support the roof and add some interest to the vaulted roof space. We went for a structural Oak ridge supported by a King post truss. This reduced the price by removing need for purlins and wind braces, and allowed for flexibility in positioning of Velux and dormer windows.
